See what kid-friendly monsters from the creature master Guillermo del Toro look like

From Guillermo del Toro”s imagination has sprung the stuff of nightmares, creatures certain to stay with you long after you”ve seen them in Hellboy, Pan”s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim. And with his upcoming Netflix animated series Trollhunters, he again gets to delve into his love of monsters, albeit this time of the more kid-friendly variety.

We now have our first look at Trollhunters since the teaser image unveiled back in April that obscured a troll with fog and silhouette. These new images, which Entertainment Weekly debuted today, give us a peek at how things look when del Toro meets How to Train Your Dragon (Trollhunters is made by DreamWorks). Take a look:

Del Toro additionally told EW about casting the lead voice role of Jim, who becomes the Trollhunter, defender of the good trolls. Anton Yelchin lent his voice to the character, and it turns out it”s one of the final performances he completed before his death this June.

Yelchin had a “warm, accessible quality” that del Toro imagined for Jim, he told EW. “That simple goodness and beautiful soul came through every time [Yelchin read].”

Trollhunters, based on the middle-grade book of the same name del Toro wrote with Daniel Kraus, debuts on Netflix this December.
