It looks as though Captain Marvel will appear in Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War has been released to an overwhelmingly positive critical response (the film stands at 91% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes) and has already earned $200 million in international box office sales (via Box Office Mojo).

The directors behind the film, Joe and Anthony Russo, are already looking ahead toward their next adventures, though, Avengers: Infinity War parts I and II, which as we reported earlier this week will ultimately have two separate titles.

During an interview with Deadline, the directing team revealed that they will begin shooting this November. What's particularly notable is that during a separate Q&A at The Smithsonian (via Coming Soon), the brothers listed Captain Marvel as one of the characters set to appear in Infinity War.

Now when asked to clarify, they did joke, “Um…Captain Barvel. Totally different character.”

But it's fairly clear that they simply let something slip in the midst of rattling off a series of character names. The cat, it seems, is out of the bag.

Captain Marvel is one of the most eagerly awaited additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her solo film is set for March 8, 2019 in between the two Infinity War movies, but it would be in line with Marvel Studio's m.o. to introduce her in the first team-up film — much to the delight of fans.

The going theory is that the actress has already been cast, and has been for months, but as HitFix's own Drew McWeeny tells it, no one wants to be the one who leaks the news. If production begins in November, Marvel may be planning to reveal their Captain Marvel as a part of their San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Angelina Jolie has been rumored to both direct and star in the film, but it seems unlikely that the actress would play Captain Marvel herself, as that character will likely have a decade more of films ahead of her.

Who would you like to see play Captain Marvel? Are you looking forward to seeing her — possibly — earlier than expected?
