Jennifer Lawrence is storming the music charts.
The “Hunger Games” star may have cried before shooting the “Mockingjay” scene in which she sings the haunting James Newton Howard-composed tune “The Hanging Tree,” but the emotional ordeal appears to be paying off. Not only has the song reached No. 12 and No. 14 on the Australian (ARIA) and U.K. singles charts, respectively, it also looks primed for a Top 40 debut on the Billboard Hot 100. Additionally, it's been forecast to sell in the ballpark of 150,000 downloads in its first week.
Of course, Lawrence wouldn't be the first movie star-turned-Billboard chart success; Anna Kendrick's “Pitch Perfect” cover “Cups” peaked at No. 6 on the Hot 100 last year.
Written by “Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins and Lumineers bandmates Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz, “The Hanging Tree” is included on the official “Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack.
