John Boyega is ready to ‘put the beat down on some kaiju’ in ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’

Star Wars: Episode VIII star John Boyega has posted about the start of filming on Pacific Rim: Maelstrom in Sydney, Australia.

Boyega was cast in the highly-anticipated sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim back in June and it was revealed then he'd be playing the son of Idris Elba's character Stacker Pentecost. It seems he's arrived in Australia to film and is ready to “put the beat down on some kaiju.”

He wrote, “Grey skies today but here to put the beat down on some kaiju. Sydney sorry for the exploding buildings and giant lizard sightings. It's for your own safety -Pentecost” He also posted this image confirming the film's title.

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead ?????

Del Toro is still producing but the film's director, Daredevil's Steven S. DeKnight, has apparently been there for a while already doing prep.

Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, Karan Brar, Levi Meaden, and newcomer Cailee Spaeny are also set to star in the Legendary/Universal film set for a Feb. 23, 2018 release date. But original lead Charlie Hunnam has already been confirmed to not be returning to his role. There's been no word as to whether or not Rinko Kikuchi will return as Mako. Latest reports had Emily Carmichael and Kira Snyder working on the script.
