John Oliver explains the world, Beyonce to emerging cicadas

Last Week Tonight was off this week, but that doesn't mean John Oliver doesn't have a few minutes to explain the world to a new audience with his trademark concern-wit.

The new audience would be cicadas, who are emerging this spring and summer after spending 17 years underground. The world has changed a lot from since 1999, when they were born and the last time they were above ground, and they only have two to six weeks of life as adults, time they'll mostly spend mating.

Oliver decided to do the cicadas a solid by bringing them up to speed on the last 17 years as quickly as possible, so they can get on with their sex and death frenzy.
