Josh Hutcherson may have an official Twitter account with nearly 3 million followers (and an Instagram account with nearly 102,000), but the “Hunger Games” star claims he is not a fan of social media — and his scant use of both platforms seems to bear this out.
“I rebel against social media quite often,” he told me on the “Mockingjay – Part 2” press line at San Diego Comic Con. “I just don't do it. I don't use it, I don't like it.”
For context, the question I posed to Hutcherson was the following: “What is the most rebellious thing about you?”
While he admitted that some good has come out of platforms like Twitter and Instagram, Hutcherson said that overall, he thinks social media is leading us down a dark path.
“I think it's misused all the time, and especially things like Instagram, where it's all about status and a veneer and trying to project this idea of what you want to be out to the world instead of who you really are,” he continued. “And all the filters and everything. I think it's just a really unsafe way to raise the youth, and I'm afraid for the next generation.”
