It's fair to say that Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis are the top two comic talents working today. Wiig is an “SNL” legend who has proven she is a compelling actress with turns in “The Skeleton Twins” and, frankly, “Bridesmaids,” where she could've earned a Best Actress nomination with an extra awards season push. Galifianakis, meanwhile, has thrilled us with his standup and “Hangover” performances, but I'm still a huge fan of his from “Late World with Zach,” his VH1 talk show from the early 2000s that was almost incessantly hilarious.
So we have reason to be obsessed with their new project together, “Masterminds.” They're both playing familiar characters from their repertoire, but as a duo they seem explosive. The presence of Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis is a comfort too. No release date has yet been announced, but it'll allegedly be out by the end of summer. Can't wait.
