This much is clear: Kristen Wiig won’t be giving up her day job to start a music career anytime soon.
Sitting down with HitFix to talk about her role as Ben Stiller’s love interest in the forthcoming comedy-drama “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” the “Bridesmaids” star said a scene that required her to use her real singing voice proved a bit difficult to digest when it came hearing the playback.
“It was weird when we were shooting it, too, because they played it, and it was kind of like the first time they played it I was like ‘oh, that’s me, this is embarrassing,'” she said. “And they kept playing it and playing it and playing it.”
Thankfully Wiig felt more confident when it came to signing on for the film, which Stiller also directed from a script by Steve Conrad (“The Pursuit of Happyness”).
“I met with Ben, we talked about the kind of movie it would be, the tone. Because you can’t really tell when you’re reading something what it’s gonna be,” she said. “It just seemed like the kind of movie that I would wanna go see. The whole thing was really exciting to me.”
On the subject of future projects, Wiig is set to make an appearance at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with her new film “The Skeleton Twins” opposite her former “SNL” co-star Bill Hader – though she assured us it’s not the laugh riot you might think.
“It’s not a comedy,” she said. “It’s…I would say it’s a dark comedy, or a drama with comedic scenes, for sure. It’s drama first, and I’m so excited for people to see Bill in this, because he is unbelievable in this movie….But yeah, it’s a dark story, and it deals with mental illness, and suicide, and yeah, it’s kind of all in there.”
