Percy Sledge, who sang ‘When a Man Loves a Woman,’ dies at 73

Percy Sledge, soul and R&B singer whose “When a Man Loves a Woman” topped the U.S. charts in the 1960s, has died. He was 73.

According to the Times Daily, Sledge died this morning (April 14) at his home in Baton Rouge, La. A cause of death is currently unknown.

Sledge, part of the famous Muscle Shoals, Ala., scene of the “60s, grew to prominence after “When a Man Loves a Woman,” famously covered by Michael Bolton for a GRAMMY-winning version in 1991, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. It was Sledge”s only top 10 hit on the chart…
