Red Alert: Tilda Swinton is starring in the ‘Suspiria’ remake

Suspiria is one of those horror films that feels nearly impossible to remake effectively; Dario Argento's original is truly a one-of-a-kind phenomenon, and it seems almost foolish for any other filmmaker to try and replicate its impact. Which clearly isn't going to stop them from trying: back in 2008 David Gordon Green was attached to direct the project, first with Natalie Portman starring and, after she dropped out, Orphan actress Isabelle Fuhrman. When Green left over budget issues, the way was paved for Italian director Luca Guadagnino, who announced at last year's Venice Film Festival that he would be taking a stab (no pun intended) at the long-developing film.

Here's the incredible thing: Tilda Swinton might actually star in this, as Guadagnino said during a recent Q&A to promote his upcoming movie A Bigger Splash. Not only that, but Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson (who also stars in Splash alongside Swinton) is also reportedly attached. How did I miss this news the first time?

Swinton is always an intriguing casting choice, and clearly she's a fan of Guadanino's, who first directed her in the critically-acclaimed 2009 drama I Am Love. If this has to happen, we could do a lot worse than Tilda Swinton as an elegant headmistress/powerful witch.
