The news comes after 3-year-old test footage shot for the solo film surfaced online.

Directed by visual effects vet Tim Miller from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Zombieland”), “Deadpool” is yet another attempt at a comeback for Reynolds, who has starred in a number of high-profile duds in recent years including “The Green Lantern” and “R.I.P.D.” He originated the role of the gunslinging vigilante in 2009's “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

In addition to “Deadpool,” Reynolds is gearing up for a slew of upcoming releases including Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's “Mississippi Grind,” Simon Curtis's “Woman in Gold” opposite Katie Holmes, Tarsem Singh's “Selfless” with Matthew Goode and the action-thriller “Criminal” co-starring Gal Gadot and Alice Eve.
