Yes, ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is already filming

The release date for Star Wars: Episode VIII may have been pushed back, but the production is now up and running.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news on an investor call, according to Entertainment Weekly. Per a transcript of the call on Seeking Alpha, Iger said filming has “already commenced” and production on Episode IX “has also begun.” Oh, and Rogue One is nearly done filming and the Star Wars spinoff coming after that (Iger didn't specify, but it's the young Han Solo film) is in preproduction and still looking at a May 2018 release date.

As Screencrush points out, while it's great to know Star Wars VIII is on track, principal photography was actually supposed to start in January, so we're actually a month behind. But seeing as the film isn't scheduled to open until December 2017, there's plenty of time for writer-director Rian Johnson to catch up.
