Super Mario Run is the logical next step to Nintendo’s mobile domination – She Said/She Said

She Said/She Said is a (sporadically) daily video featuring HitFix Harpy Donna Dickens and HitFix Weekend Editor Jill Pantozzi discussing current events in geek news.

Earlier today, Apple held a press conference to announce many things: The new iPhone, the new Apple Watch, the divisive Airpods, and their collaboration with Nintendo to bring Super Mario Run to iOS devices. An ‘endless runner” game in the vein of Flappy Bird (the irony that Flappy Bird was a partial riff on Super Mario is not lost here), the paid app will be headed to the Apple store later this year.

It”ll also eventually make its way onto the Android store.

This move shouldn”t really come as a surprise to anyone with knowledge of Nintendo”s current predicament. Despite total domination of the handheld market, their home consoles are another story. Nintendo simply can”t compete with Microsoft and Sony for the ‘core” gamer; nor should they try. With the launch of Pokemon Go and now Super Mario Run, the company is back in familiar – albeit new – territory. Gaming on the go.

In the video above, HitFix Harpy's Donna Dickens and Jill Pantozzi are pretty excited about a future where Nintendo rules mobile with an iron fist.
