Last week I saw a tweet from Richard Kelly, director of 'Donnie Darko' and 'Southland Tales' claiming the best burger in Los Angeles was at D'Amores (known for their pizza) on 3rd Street.
Yes, the best burger (and fries) in Los Angeles are at an Italian place on 3rd Street. #NationalBurgerDay https://t.co/wka60wXqLn

So I tweeted him back my disbelief.
@JRichardKelly you fucking with me? I work near there & I”ll sample the goods tomorrow.

@mathewperezmora Not kidding at all. I just discovered it by chance as it is buried on their menu.

Consider me intrigued. So I gathered up some of my co-workers and we made our way down to D'Amores Pizza to try out the “Best Burger in Los Angeles”.
Pictured above is what I now affectionately refer to as the “Donnie Darko” burger. When it arrived at our table, I was surprised how delicious it looked. I don't consider myself a critic of anything let alone food, so I'll make this brief:
Yes, this was one tasty burger.
But the best I've had in Los Angeles – a city built on legendary burgers: not by a long shot.
Mr. Kelly, if you're game and would like to try my favorite burger in Los Angeles, let me know and I'd be more than happy to pick up the check.
UPDATE: 6/4/15
Richard Kelly has promptly responded with some arguments that I must admit are valid.
@HitFix The greatness of this burger is amplified by how obscure it is on the menu of an Italian restaurant! It's a discovery burger!

@HitFix Also, the fresh cut steak fries there have no business being that good! Props to D'Amore's for thorough deliciousness.

And yet, he still has not taken me up on my burger date offer. #rejected
LET ME TAKE YOU TO THE GOLDEN STATE, RICHARD KELLY!
