The ‘It’ remake’s new director has Guillermo del Toro’s endorsement

The “It” remake may have snagged a new director, and I'm liking their choice.

New Line is in talks with Andy Muschietti, director of the 2013 supernatural horror film “Mama,” to take over their two-part feature adaptation of Stephen King's 1986 novel. “True Detective” helmer Cary Fukunaga had previously been attached but departed over creative differences; no word on whether “We're the Millers” star Will Poulter will end up playing Pennywise the Clown now that the project has changed hands.

The Guillermo del Toro-produced “Mama” was a flawed but visually stunning feature directorial debut from Muschietti with a solid lead performance from Jessica Chastain and a few good scares (it also grossed nearly $150 million worldwide on a $15 million budget). This seems like an appropriate choice, and del Toro's endorsement obviously means a lot.

What do you think?
