Spike TV is about to get a lot scarier. No, they”re not rebooting that Criss Angel show. The cable network has greenlit the scripted series The Mist, based on the Stephen King short story.
The 10-episode series, produced by TWC-Dimension Television, centers on a small town where things go haywire when a mist rolls in after a violent thunderstorm. The show will start shooting this summer and is scheduled to debut in 2017.
In a statement, Spike TV”s EVP Sharon Levy said, “The Mist will take audiences on a thrilling ride through a small town grappling with a mysterious and shocking horror.”
This is not the first time there”s been an adaptation of The Mist. In 2007, Frank Darabont directed the film version which featured Thomas Jane and Marcia Gay Harden. The horror flick grossed $57 million on an $18 million budget.
King first released the novella as part of the collection of horror stories, Dark Forces, in 1980.
