There are many reasons to look forward to 2017. For one thing, it means we’re done with this dumb year. Also, because television is the only thing worth living for, there are some very exciting shows coming out, including: new seasons of Game of Thrones, Fargo, Rick and Morty, The Leftovers, The Americans, and Stranger Things; the debut of Star Trek: Discovery and The Young Pope; and the return of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Twin Peaks.
The new promo for Showtime’s upcoming revival of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s genre-defying classic (it’s kind of a comedy, but it’s also sort of a horrifying mystery) shows Lynch, in character as hard-of-hearing FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole, eating a donut, and nothing else. Fans of the original series will be delighted; everyone else will be confused. It’s wonderful.
Cole is one of many old Twin Peaks favorites who are returning for the limited series, including Kyle MacLachlan, Dana Ashbrook, Ray Wise, and Peggy Lipton, as well as newcomers Jim Belushi, Michael Cera, Laura Dern, Brett Gelman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Trent Reznor, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Vedder, and about a dozen other “wait, really?” names. Presumably they’ll spend the entire time eating donuts and, occasionally, a slice of damn good pie.
Twin Peaks premieres on Showtime sometime in 2017.
