The Walking Dead is the biggest thing on TV. And now it”s certainly going to be the biggest thing in the small town of Cynthiana, KY.
A giant mural of four major, not-yet-eaten characters from the zombie apocalypse show – Rick Grimes, Carl Grimes, Michonne and Daryl Dixon – was just completed in this town of only 6,300 people. The painting, from Portuguese artist Sergie Odeith, spans the entire side of the Rohs Opera House with faces upwards of 40-feet high.
The total project took six days to complete, required 70 cans of spray paint and cost about $8,000. But this doesn”t answer one key question: Why on earth would this town, 50 miles from Lexington, make such a mural? Well, it turns out there”s actually a lot of history related to the show in this small town.
TWD comic book creator Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, the comic's original artist, grew up in Cynthiana. Now their characters will watch over their home town, and ward off the undead, for years to come.
