Tom Cruise has been through the ringer a number of times during his career, but judging from the use of Eminem’s “Won’t Back Down” in the new trailer for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” he’s coming out fighting in what is expected to be his last turn as Ethan Hunt.
The live action debut of animation master Brad Bird (“The Incredibles”), “Ghost Protocol” also stars Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton (“Precious”) and features an expanded role for Simon Pegg who appeared in the last installment of the long running franchise. This time around, the IMF is being disbanded, but only Ethan Hunt can save it? Maybe? Well, a couple of big explosions, the destruction of the Kremlin (gotta love that expanding Russian film market Hollywood keeps sucking up to), a trip to the Middle East and Ethan’s penchant for climbing impossible heights and you might have a movie on your hands. Plus, Renner’s character and Hunt might just have a few secrets of their own to reveal. It’s a lot to pack into one preview, but it certainly looks more cinematic than J.J. Abrams’ “Mission Impossible 3.” Be warned though, it’s still hard to out do this classic preview for “M:I 2.”
