Watch: Sigourney Weaver talks ‘Abduction’, ‘Prometheus’

Acting vets Sigourney Weaver and Alfred Molina join tween sensation Taylor Lautner in the upcoming action film “Abduction”, in which the “Twilight” heartthrob stars as Nathan Price, a suburban boy whose life is thrown into deadly turmoil after discovering one of his childhood photos on a missing person’s website.

HitFix sat down for a twofer with Weaver and Molina over the weekend to discuss the John Singleton-directed film, which represents Lautner’s first starring role outside of the “Twilight” franchise.

During the interview, Weaver – who plays Nathan’s “keeper”/psychologist Dr. Bennett – discusses her character’s origins as a male in the script, her ear-shattering experience at the film’s tween-mobbed premiere, and her own formative years as a “Beatlemaniac”. She also gives a few soundbites on “Prometheus”, the upcoming Ridley Scott film that was originally intended as an “Alien” prequel before morphing into a stand-alone project.

As for Molina, who plays CIA agent Frank Burton, he speaks of getting a “creative kick up the bum” from fresh-faced co-stars Lautner and Lily Collins, as well as his experiences playing a modern-day government operative for the first time.

Both actors, it should be noted, have enjoyed long, prestigious careers; Weaver is a three-time Oscar nominee and two-time Emmy nominee, while Molina has been nominated for three Tonys for his acclaimed stage work.

In other words, while Lautner may currently rank as the most famous face in the film’s cast, he’s got a long way to go to before being counted in the same league as his elder co-stars.

“Abduction” opens this Friday, September 23rd.
