Unless this is your first visit to HitFix (and if so, welcome), you might have noticed some branding on the site over the past few days touting the “Entertainment Avalanche 2014.” And if you’re wondering, “What the heck is that?” Well, you’re in the middle of it and it’s only going to get crazier over the next week.
Partially because of the Winter Olympics and partially due to some myopic planning by the Academy, a two-week stretch in January has turned into the busiest entertainment news period the HitFix staff can remember. We just made it through the Golden Globes, the Television Critics’ Association Winter Press Tour is in full swing (with one “GIRLS” panel for the history books), the Oscar nominations are Thursday morning, the Sundance Film Festival kicks off Thursday night, the Critics’ Choice Awards are also Thursday night, the SAG Awards are Saturday night and the Grammy Awards are a week from Sunday. And the HitFix staff is going to be there making sure you get the latest news, reviews and interviews on the ground. From Park City to LA Live and everywhere in-between. Oh, and did we mention the ton of TV shows returning or premiering this month too? (“Looking!”)
A few months ago, after taking some deep breaths, we realized we needed to give this sucker a fun name that would live in infamy and get us through the madness without wanting to put our head under the covers pretending it would all go away. And, thanks to a suggestion from Mr. Drew McWeeny, the Entertainment Avalanche was born. We even made a fun little promo video embedded at the top of this post that will part of our ongoing coverage of this celebrity mashup.
In the meantime, tell us which event you’re most excited about in the poll below. If you haven’t already, make sure to follow @HitFix and keep visiting HitFix.com for the latest updates as the avalanche keeps rolling.
