Winter Break: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 delayed

The countdown to next season of Game of Thrones just got a little longer because…well…winter isn”t here long enough.

In an interview on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss explained that because of the story lines for next year, production will need to be pushed back. And as a result, the premiere date for Season 7 gets a delay too.

“We don”t have an air date yet,” Benioff and Weiss said. “We”re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here” – and that means that sunny weather doesn”t really serve our purposes any more. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

For each of the first six years, GoT has started anywhere between late March and late April. But it sounds like this time around it could be a couple months later. This, combined with the fact that next season will only be seven episodes, can”t make fans happy. But after the recent season finale to end all season finales, people will likely forgive the brief delay.
