‘Wonder Woman’ leaps forward to a shiny new release date

If you loved Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I have good news. Warner Bros. just announced they”re pushing up the Princess of Themyscira”s solo film, if only by a couple of weeks.

As reported by THR, Diana Prince will now arrive in theaters on June 2, 2017, instead of her original release date of June 23, 2017. While no reason was forthcoming as to the change, a quick perusal of the competition holds some clues. With the original date, Wonder Woman would”ve been squaring off against Transformers 5. Never a critical darling, the giant robot films nevertheless are huge box office draws.

Moving two weeks back, the competition is still fierce. June 16, 2017 has Kinsmen: The Golden Circle for adults and Cars 3 for kids. June 9, 2017 is already overstuffed with World War Z 2, The Divergent Series: Ascendant (wait, there”s ANOTHER one?), and Tom Cruise”s Dark Universe: The Mummy. Meanwhile, in the other direction, June 30, 2017 is claimed by Despicable Me 3 and Uncharted, the latter based on a very popular video game series. July 7, 2017 is Spider-Man, so that weekend is out.

Which leaves June 2, 2017, where Wonder Woman will square off against Captain Underpants and Bad Boys III. So what did we learn? That 2017 is overflowing with blockbuster franchises and we”re all going to be super poor. I mean, look at this schedule! Won”t someone think of our pocketbooks??
