Hey, punch pals. It’s time for another action-packed weekend of fisticuffs, feeticuffs and grabicuffs. There’s boxing and MMA, so let’s take a look at who’s fighting and when.
A week after the insanity that was Bellator 138, the No. 2 organization is back with another solid card. The prelims will be on Spike.com starting at 7 p.m. EST. There aren’t many big names on the prelims, but there are big dudes, with three heavyweight fights.
The main card will start at 9 p.m. EST on Spike TV. Glory kickboxer Joe Schilling will face Hisaki Kato, while former Featherweight Champ Pat Curran takes on Emmanuel Sanchez, and lightweight star Dave “The Caveman” Rickels faces veteran John Alessio. In the main event, former Heavyweight Champion Alex Volkov fights Cheick Kongo, who quoted some French rap lyrics in reference to his opponent, saying, “I’m gonna rape you, break your bones and drink your blood.” How charming.
At 10:35 p.m. EST, Showtime will have another edition of ShoBox: The New Generation, as Dominic Wade takes on Sam Soliman. Wade’s a young guy, only 25, with a 17-0 record, while Soliman is 41, with a 44-12 mark. Soliman is being touted as Wade’s toughest test, so we’ll see if the young gun can defeat the wily veteran.
UFC is going to Hollywood! Florida, that is. Sorry for the disappointment. Speaking of disappointment, several fights scheduled for this card fell through due to visa complications. Anyway, the prelims kick off at 8 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 2. The prelims will feature both “The Creepy Weasel” Steve Montgomery and the quick return of Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira, so that should be fun.
The main card is at 10 p.m. EST on Fox Sports 1 with five fights. Former hockey goon/enforcer Steve Bosse makes his UFC debut, while we’ve got one of my personal favorites, FACE SHOE. In the main event, Yoel Romero takes on Lyoto Machida in a huge middleweight clash!
Tim “Desert Storm” Bradley takes on Jessie Vargas on HBO at 9:45 p.m. EST. I know a bit about Bradley, and he’s a solid boxer, so I’ll be looking forward to this fight.
And finally, Big Knockout Boxing is back. The PPV kicks off at 10 p.m. EST and features guys standing in a circle and just slangin’ & bangin’.
That’s a solid weekend of combat sports, so join in on the discussion fun!
