There’s not much A-Rod can do right these days in the eyes of the Yankees’ brass. After being suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating Major League Baseball’s joint drug prevention and treatment program, he managed to annoy members of the front office on Monday by showing up to spring training two days early without making them aware that he was planning to do so.
The Yankees were expecting Rodriguez to arrive at camp on Wednesday along with the rest of the position players. They apparently had no issue with him showing up early, but the fact that he did so without telling anyone, leaving Yankees PR scrambling to handle the media circus that followed, left some within the organization fuming.
“He’s learned nothing,” said one baseball executive. “He’s the same old guy. He just did what he wanted to do.”
Who would have guessed that A-Rod’s return would get off to a rocky start? If this is how things are going to go for him this year, he should probably keep the stationery handy.
