A great pass from @Drew_Willy + an awesome catch by @ryguy_4 = a @Wpg_BlueBombers touchdown. #CFLGameDay pic.twitter.com/hnrUNXnmBZ

Has this ever happened to you? You’re running across a field, minding your own business, when suddenly something strikes you in the hip. Out of instinct, you grab this mysterious object, and you just keep running. That’s basically what happened to Ryan Smith. The thing of it is, he’s a wide receiver for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, and he scored a touchdown in the process.
This is one of the odder touchdowns you will see. Drew Willy, who went to college in Buffalo, so he probably feels right at home in Winnipeg, dropped back to throw a pass like one does. He saw Smith open, and decided to throw him the ball. For whatever reason, Smith wasn’t ready for it, as his eyes were elsewhere. He literally seems to be just struck by the football, and somehow it struck him just right so that he was able to grab the ball. The ball just sort of wedged itself between his arm and his body, and then he is able to get a handle on it and just keep running.
You will see catches that show more physical acumen, and you will see catches that require even more luck. However, you will rarely see a touchdown catch that feels quite like this one. On top of that, the Blue Bombers beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 28-24. This touchdown was the difference between a win and a loss for Winnipeg, and Smith didn’t even have to look for the ball to make it happen.
