Former slugger Wade Boggs has a reputation for being a bit of a drinker. The ex-Red Sox, Yankees, and then-Devil Rays star is famous for once allegedly consuming 64 beers on a cross-country flight during his playing days, even though Boggs shot that rumor down, and once told Charlie Day that he consumed 107 beers in a day.
TMZ caught up with Boggs last week before the Yankees had their Old-Timers’ Day, and asked him the question everyone wants to know: How on earth does a human being consume more than 100 beers in a day and live? According to Boggs, it’s genetic, but it has nothing to do with having the world’s most efficient liver.
Of course, Boggs is pretty obviously joking around, and it’s certainly fair to assume that none of this is true because Boggs is aware of the legend and is just messing with people. But it’s a lot more fun to imagine Wade Boggs plowing through case after case of beer, so we’re just going to do that.
