You know, our stock of Internet Explorer jokes were getting stale. The few times we had to think of it, we had to struggle to think of a joke better than “the browser you use to download a browser that doesn’t suck.”
So, thank you, Microsoft marketing department. Once again, you’ve taken a product that nobody thinks about, and turned it into a complete freaking joke.
Specifically with the Tumblr “The Browser You Loved To Hate,” which tries to appeal to hipsters. With infographics about how even outdated things can make a comeback. Which explicitly compares IE 9 to Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Guys, when the top of your site reads “It’s Good Now” and “No, Really” as a tab, it’s time to reconsider your marketing strategy.
The sad thing is, Internet Explorer 9 is actually not a bad browser at all. True, IE 6, 7, and 8 were awful even if you weren’t comparing them to Firefox, or Chrome, or Safari, or Opera, but IE 9, although it’s been leapfrogged, is a decent browser in its own right. Maybe they can add that to their stock of quotes about how their browser doesn’t suck on their Tumblr, right next to this one: Microsoft needs to accept that it’s never going to be hip. Just embrace it, guys. You are tech’s dorky, clueless dad.
