Cheating has become a focal point of the gaming world thanks to the competitive gaming scene that has emerged in the past few years, but now it looks like the threat of perma-ban will extend into the more casual realm of gaming as well. There is no game right now that is hotter than Niantic and Nintendo’s Pokemon Go, an augmented reality app for Android and iPhone smartphones that has taken the world by storm. Until now, players have been concerned about catching ’em all or avoiding weird creeps in vans, but that has changed.

The devs behind everyone’s favorite walking inspirator isn’t going to be lenient when it comes to cheaters, says Gizmodo. Niantic has released a statement about cheating and how there will be zero tolerance for cheating of any kind.

“This includes, but is not limited to: falsifying your location, using emulators, modified or unofficial software and/or accessing Pokémon GO clients or backends in an unauthorized manner including through the use of third party software.

Our goal is to provide a fair, fun and legitimate game experience for everyone. We will continue to work with all of you to improve the quality of the gameplay, including ongoing optimization and fine tuning of our anti-cheat system.”

So there you go, while third party trackers were all of the rage for a while until Niantic took them down and even pulled the game’s trackers, they plan on fixing that system in an update that should satisfy Pokemon Trainers everywhere. But if you were considering using some sort of software to claim to be somewhere that you weren’t or were using a program that would somehow cheat the game, prepare for Niantic to unleash the ban hammer.
