Taking up for Don Lemon is something I’ll regret until the day I die. But that blow is softened a bit because without Don Lemon and the rest of his cohorts at CNN, sketches like this one wouldn’t exist.
SNL manages to capture the complete experience of watching the modern version of CNN in just this one tiny sketch. There’s unnecessary reenactments, unnecessary digital recreations, and unnecessary Don Lemon commentary. What isn’t unnecessary is the presence of puppets and their use in recreating government proceedings. Puppet John Kerry still looks like a snooty Frenchman, but he’s a lot more likeable now.
