Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label houses a lot of weirdos. The collective’s Azizi Gibson might be the most normal of the bunch, but his globe-trotting upbringing and latest mixtape, Ghost In The Shell, ensures that he isn’t by much.
Right off the bat, “Intro” encourages one to “tap into your mind, open up your skull, stop living life blind,” which serves as excellent advice to live by. Seemingly unnecessary is his warning, however, because Ghost… is quite the engaging and accessible listen. Having grown up in Thailand, Singapore, the DMV, and now living in LA, his worldly perspective is reflected in his rhymes. His Harry Potter references are also noted and appreciated.
