If you handle pubic relations for a law enforcement agency, 2015 probably hasn’t been a great year for you. This video of an off-duty Massachusetts police officer threatening a driver recorded this past Sunday probably isn’t making anyone’s job any easier, either.
The officer in question is Medford Police Detective Steven Lebert. He’s a “very effective police officer,” according to Medford Police Chief Leo Sacco, but the “incident that’s on video, at least that portion of the video that I saw, is troubling to say the least.” Lebert has been placed on administrative leave pending a further investigation.
The video was recorded and posted by a YouTube user under the name “basedboston” — he provided his first name, Mike, and his age (25) but declined to provide a last name. According to his story, he had gotten lost on the way home, made a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong end of a one way street. That’s when he was confronted by Lebert.
No formal charges have been filed. Lebert was also involved in another altercation involving a video in 2012, as can be seen here.
