In 30, 40, 50 years, when Kate Winslet receives her Academy Honorary Award, in recognition of her decades of strong cinematic work, I guarantee the first words out of her mouth will be, “I don’t know what I was thinking with Movie 43, either.” That stink-fart of a movie has one of the greatest movie casts in recent memory — everyone from Winslet to Hugh Jackman to Kristen Bell to Chris Pratt to Liev Schreiber to Uma Thurman, etc. — but it’s so bad, like “everyone had to be blackmailed into making it” bad, like “4% on Rotten Tomatoes” bad. So naturally, it won Worst Picture at the 34th Razzie Awards last night.
[Movie 43] also won worst director for its 13 directors and worst screenplay for the 19 screenwriters.
The sci-fi flop After Earth also earned three Razzies Saturday evening. And it was definitely a family affair for stars Jaden Smith and his father Will Smith. Jaden Smith won worst actor, while his father was named worst supporting actor. The Smiths also won a Razzie for worst screen combo.
Worst actress went to Tyler Perry for his performance as Madea in A Madea Christmas, and Kim Kardashian picked up her first Razzie for supporting actor for Perry’s Temptation.
The Lone Ranger won for worst remake/rip-off or sequel. (Via)
Yeah, the Razzies are dumb and pointless, but so is After Earth‘s M. Night Shyamalan. It’s a perfect fit.
