Earlier this week, I riffed on how it seemed that many in the media seemed to have forgotten that Stephen Colbert is a political satirist who makes his living mocking conservatives and Fox News, for the most part. What sparked my ire was Colbert announcing that he’d be running ads in Iowa to “support” dolt-y pick-up truck ornament Rick Perry’s run for the presidency that some media people were reporting as fact without a trace of irony. I wrote (Yes, I am quoting myself here)…
Do you think that Colbert is actually going to use his SuperPAC money to help Rick Perry? Of course not! Quite the opposite, he’s going to use that money to try to subversively destroy Rick Perry because Colbert thinks he’s a staggering jackass. And it’ll probably be brilliant and glorious.
So last night Colbert unveiled the one-minute ad he’s running all over Iowa — which for some ungodly reason plays a vital role in determining America’s presidents — in “support” of Rick Perry, and it’s indeed brilliant and glorious. And in an attempt to subversively destroy Perry, Colbert urges the state’s caucus participants to write-in Perry’s name on their ballots using the incorrect spelling of his name — “Parry” — so that the votes will presumably be discarded. The ad is also rife with some sexual innuendo using ears of corn and butter. In other words, it’s perfect. Enjoy…
