Amid Lucas trying to trick us over his screwing with “Star Wars” again, we find there are filmmakers who get it. Like, surprisingly, Steven Spielberg.
You might remember back in 2002, Spielberg released a new “improved” version of “E.T.” that had the guns digitally removed and a few lines edited, most notably “penis breath”. It was widely acclaimed as one of the worst things Spielberg had ever done. And it seems he actually listened to the feedback.
At a recent screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, Spielberg asked the audience if they wanted the 2002 version, and got a unanimous “NO!” And that, apparently, settles that: it’s dead and gone. Spielberg admitted he’d been listening to whiny parents groups, not the fans, and that it was a mistake. Oh, and that he won’t be doing it ever again.
You listening, George?
