Injustice: Gods Among Us has quietly become a lost Elseworlds story, digging into just what would happen if Superman really did lose it. And, along the way, it’s also become a great superhero comic.
Yes, yes, it’s a tie-in to the fighting game, but Tom Taylor has actually made it something of a love letter to the imaginary stories that used to be told about the DCU while finding a pretty significant degree of depth and characterization. It’s a different kind of story from the New 52, and in some ways it’s a fun reinterpretation of the characters, exploring alternate realities and having fun with the idea of a world ruled by an insane Superman.
On the other hand, a world ruled by an insane Superman is not a lot of fun, as we find out in this preview. The full book arrives next week.
