A Groom Asked His Bride For A Nude Selfie And Ended Up In Police Custody

A local news story out of Thane in Maharashtra, India sounds like a fable for today’s selfie-loving generation. A groom, Jithendra Ramakrishna, was about to marry his beloved when he thought about jumping the moral gun and requested, ahead of their wedding, if could he please see a nude selfie sent via text. His bride, who was not identified, refused to honor the request and Ramakrishna was so pissed that he threatened to cancel the wedding. Over a nude selfie. Ramakrishna, who is 33 years old and not 13, apparently made several requests for the nude selfie that were never granted.

But in case you wanted to see this story take a comical turn, you are in great luck! After being refused nude selfies, Ramakrishna told his bride’s parents that they also owed him a dowry, Rs 3 lakh, and if he wasn’t going to get either, the wedding was off.

In case you don’t know how a dowry works, it’s an Indian wedding custom, in which a gift is given to a groom by a bride’s family as a sort of insurance that their daughter will be cared for. In the event that “the husband divorces, abuses, or commits other grave offenses against her,” he has to give the dowry back. So that, my friends, is irony. But that is probably just one reason why the bride’s parents called the authorities on this truly honorable gentleman who is now in custody along with the rest of his family. (The main reason being that under the dowry act, asking for a dowry is illegal.)

Kudos to the bride’s parents for protecting her from a total idiot, and may she meet someone who is at least slightly more well-versed in the laws of the land.
