David Duke is in the news again. After yesterday’s story about Rep. Steve Scalise’s role as a speaker at one of his group’s events, the well known white supremecist and founder of the European-American Unity and Rights Organization has threatened to throw other politicians under the bus. In a conversation with Fusion, he admits to knowing many people in Louisiana’s congressional delegation and knows full well they do not want any public association with him what-so-ever.
Overall, Duke was rather flabbergasted by the new focus on Scalise. He said he has hosted both Democratic and Republican legislators at everything from conferences to his children’s birthday parties. He said he has met with Democratic legislators at least 50 times in his political life.
And he delivered a warning to both Republicans and Democrats: Treat Scalise fairly, and don’t try to make political hay out of the situation. Or he said he would be inclined to release a list of names of all the politicians — both Republicans and Democrats — with whom he has ties.
“If Scalise is going to be crucified — if Republicans want to throw Steve Scalise to the woods, then a lot of them better be looking over their shoulders,” Duke said. (Via)
For those of you who may not remember, David Duke ran for high office in the ’90s and was a very popular Louisiana politician during that time. It’s pretty flabbergasting to think about it given his views on blacks and Jews were widely known even then. Geez, the dude even sold copies of Mein Kampf out of his office in the state legislature. With the time he spent in office, the probability is high that he associated with many now-prominent politicians which gives this threat some definite weight.
