It started out as just another Wednesday. You got up, performed your morning routine, and headed to work. But as you pulled out your phone to upload a picture of that rocking smoothie you made (#adulting #fitliving) for breakfast, you notice a seismic shift in the universe. Oh my god. Instagram looked different.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, after 5 years of the familiar Polaroid camera, there’s a new logo in town. Instead of the old-fashioned roots, the new logo is all bright colors and clean lines. The interface also streamlined, getting a minimalist update. In a Medium post, Ian Spalter, Instagram’s Head of Design, expounded on why this was a change for the better.
“Color has always been a huge part of Instagram — you see it in the classic app icon, filters, and the community’s photos and videos.”
“When we started reimagining the rainbow, we looked at more minimal options, but ultimately we needed more warmth and energy to complement the glyph.”
Well, the internet, being the internet, had plenty of opinions on the groovy new design, and let’s just say they were not all positive.

Will we ever recover from this monumental change? Something tells me that we’ll be uploading our selfies and pictures of our pets with the same frequency.
