It looks like Jared Fogle’s crazy defense strategy didn’t work, because after his lawyers presented a psychiatrist who claimed that it was his Subway diet and subsequent weight loss that caused his “mild pedophilia,” U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt sentenced the former Subway spokesman to 188 months in prison; just over 15.5 years. As part of his plea deal, that’s three more years than prosecutors had been seeking and over eight more than the five that Fogle’s lawyers had been asking for.
After going over a summary of the case, Judge Pratt issued a 188-month prison sentence for Fogle, to be served concurrently. Pratt said Fogle was “obsessed” with pornography and having sex with minors, according to WISH-TV’s Tim McNicholas.
Responding to Fogle’s statement that his actions have devastated his wife, Judge Pratt interrupted him to say, “You gave your wife almost $7 million though. She’ll be OK.”
Damn, that’s cold. And in case you were wondering, Fogle isn’t going to enjoy a reduced sentence or get out early on good behavior or any of that other celebrity nonsense, as he won’t even be eligible for parole for 13 years. And even then, he’ll be required a lifetime of supervised release.
