The Trailer For ‘LEGO The Hobbit’ Is Released

(Do I spend all my free time playing roller derby? Yes I do. Do I play roller derby dressed as a female Thorin Oakenshield? Also yes.
Should you assume any Hobbit related stories I post will somehow feature Thorin Oakenshield in the headline photo? Most definitely.)

I don’t entirely understand the LEGO video games, mostly because I think they’re hard as hell and I’d rather just dork around on Animal Crossing trying to create hybrid roses. (Digital horticulture is my second passion.)

What I do understand is LEGO making the trailer for their upcoming The Hobbit video game into a parody of a ’70s heist film. As much as I liked the actual Hobbit movies, I’m 90% sure I would have enjoyed them more with an all-bongo driven soundtrack.

The name of the promo is called “Buddy-Up,” highlighting how two people can play the game together to unlock special attack moves.  You can play as any of the 13 dwarves, or Bilbo, or Gandalf. Brickipedia notes:

Warner Bros. adds that each dwarf will have his own unique ability, mentioning that Bombur can use his belly as a trampoline.

So sidenote here, a roller derby roster is 14 people and the company of Thorin Oakenshield, not counting Gandalf — because he just comes and goes as he damn well pleases — is 14 people. I think about this constantly. Bombur using his size to his advantage is pretty much the mission statement of roller derby. LEGO The Hobbit is just making my dream of a Lonely Mountain Roller Derby team slightly more of a reality. But back to the news:

The LEGO The Hobbit will be released April 8th in the U.S. for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Vita, Wii U, 3DS, PC and Mac. You can download a demo of the game from Lego’s website.
