For the past few days, Scott Simon, the host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday, has been updating his 1.2 million followers on Twitter about the condition of his mother, who is currently in a Chicago hospital ICU, gradually approaching death. It’s devastating, but through it all, his mom, Patricia Lyons Simon Newman Gilband, has kept her sense of humor intact. One tweet reads, “I don’t know why this is going on so long. I’m late for everything, I guess.”
Prepare to want to fly to Chicago and give this woman a hug.
