Political affiliation took a back seat a week ago today; liberal or conservative, the Sandy Hook school shooting was heart-breaking. Once the dust settled, though, the preverbal finger began to point at various causes – and solutions – for America’s recent string of public attacks. Friday afternoon, the NRA broke a week of silence, sticking to an ideology that has come to define them over the years. Per CNN:
“The most effective way to protect our children from horrors like last week’s school shooting in Connecticut is to provide armed security personnel at all schools, the National Rifle Association’s executive vice president said Friday.
“We need to have every single school in America immediately deploy a protection program proven to work — and by that I mean armed security,” [vice president Wayne] LaPierre said, reading from a prepared statement.”
Translation: the best way to combat gun violence in America is by using more guns.
What say you? Does the image of armed teachers and security guards at elementary schools sit well with you? Or do you find yourself disgusted with the NRA’s handling of the situation?
