Get ready for some major injustice, because a dog has been fired. Patches, a 5-year-old maltipoo, had been accompanying his owner, crossing guard Brad Curtis, to work for the past couple of years and became the most popular dog in his Jersey Shore neighborhood. Outfitted with his very own safety vest complete with a tiny stop sign, Patches provided tons of kids and their parents plenty to look forward to on an otherwise hum-drum school day.
But now, Patches has been fired. By The Man. Officials at the Jersey Shore Area School District put their foot down and decided to finally enforce their no-pets-on-the-job rule, which leaves poor Patches out of a job. Here is the statement from the superintendent, which provides zero comfort in this situation:
“We have clear policies in the school district regarding any type of animal during the work day. Yes, he is a cute, adorable pet. The bottom line: there are always unanticipated risks with an animal. Any known distraction needs to be removed.”
Oh, don’t go calling Patches cute while sending him ass-first into the horrible world of unemployment. Make no mistake, the unions will be on this. There will be justice for Patches.
