It’s been a colossal bummer of a week, but heartstring tugging pet reunions are still here for you! Crane your head to the top of the post and you’ll see another video that’s primed to make you come up with a variety of fake reasons why you’re getting all misty-eyed.
Meet Gucci. He’s an American pit bull terrier that you’d likely want to be close friends with. Three years ago, Gucci disappeared from the San Antonio yard of his family’s home two weeks before they’d make the move to Virginia. Ayana Kelly told The Virginian-Pilot that the loss of her family’s dog was crushing and she believes the pup was likely stolen from them.
“We were devastated,” Kelly said. “We really felt like we left a family member behind.”
In Virginia, the Kellys and their four children thought about adopting another dog, but it wasn’t the same.
“It was a long, depressing feeling, like an empty void you just can’t fill,” she said.
Thankfully for both Gucci and the Kellys, the void was filled by an unlikely reunion this week. It turns out that the pit bull was discovered at a San Antonio animal shelter and his status as a microchipped dog allowed the shelter to contact Gucci’s family and sort out a return. The Kellys say they received word that their dog had been cared for by someone for a while, but was later sent to the shelter. For The Love of Paws R.I. Rescue and Transport served as the chauffeur that allowed this special reunion to happen.
The return of Gucci is definitely wonderful news for the Kellys and it’s not the only fantastic development in their lives this March. Ayana, who has been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma since the summer, was told she was in remission.
“To be in remission and to have found my dog after three years, that was amazing.”
