“Prometheus” Gets a Non-Synopsis?

First, “Prometheus” was supposed to be an “Alien” prequel. Then one of the guys who wrote “Lost” said it was sort of a prequel, but it didn’t actually have anything to do with “Alien”, it was just “set in the same universe”. Then somebody (supposedly) pranked io9 by sending them a synopsis about humans being created by space jockeys and some gibberish about a “bio-source code”.

Since this was the third synopsis leaked so far, Fox decided to settle all of this and tell us the plot. Except not.

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

Here’s the problem, aside from the fact that this resembles a synopsis about as much as a glass of seltzer with some food dye resembles a tasty beer: that actually sounds a lot like a vaguer description of the terrible movie io9 heard about.

Either way, this is really not inspiring confidence. How about just telling us what the damn movie is about, Fox? Let’s go with that concept.
