Someone Figured Out Exactly Why Bob Vance Constantly Introduces Himself With: ‘Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration’

Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration has introduced himself dozens of times as, “Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration” to the worker drones at Dunder Mifflin on The Office, but until now, no one really could tell you why. What was his motivation? Maybe he was just a consistent micro-marketer, letting everyone he came in contact know that he was in the business of refrigeration, or maybe he was just a weirdo, or maybe… A genius.

A theory from Redditor savvy_knee explains that Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration introduces him and his business non-stop because he knows it’s all basically a free commercial:

Forever, I thought he was just an oddball who introduced himself that way. This is why Ryan’s joke (What kind of work are you in, Bob?) landed well.
But Bob isn’t marketing to the people at Dunder Mifflin. He’s marketing to the cameras and getting free television advertisement.

While we don’t question Bob Vance’s everlasting love for Phyllis, you have to wonder if they planned this together, or if it was a way for him to expand his empire through low-cost television exposure. Did he take advantage of Phyllis, only to fall in love later, or was this intentional? Phyllis and Bob Vance knew the documentary would only last for so long, but the refrigeration industry? The refrigeration industry will go on forever.

You probably thought this was going to be about Bob Vance being the Scranton Strangler. No. That’s Toby.
