Twenty years ago, the seminal “Apollo 18”, by They Might Be Giants, was released to critical acclaim and the kind of sales a TMBG album generally gets. Considering the current state of the music industry, one of those twentieth anniversary over-indulgent releases featuring a sculpture of the cover, three discs of rejected songs the band doesn’t want to acknowledge, and a disc of interviews of all the people involved in “Fingertips” doesn’t really seem in the cards.
So instead, the People’s Republic of Interactive Fiction turned each song on the album into a text adventure game. Yes, each part of “Fingertips” gets its own game.
As you might guess, the games vary widely in style and quality, but they’re all fun, and it’s a neat tribute. At least until somebody figures out how to incorporate TMBG into Zork.
