Kitties be crazy, yo! Earlier this year we heard the story of a Portland couple who were forced to lock themselves in a bedroom with their son and the family dog and call 911 after their large Himalayan cat, Lux, went off the deep end and attacked them — which was eventually featured on an episode of My Cat From Hell. Surely this would have to be an isolated incident, because aren’t cats supposed to be lazy and cute and make entertaining videos on the internet?
Nope, because it’s happened again, this time to a couple in Florida who were trapped by their 4-year-old Russian Blue named Kush, in what was probably the second most embarrassing 911 call in history:
“I can’t get out. She’s got us trapped in our bedroom,” Teresa Gregory, 50, told the emergency police dispatcher, according to the record of the call. “She’s just sitting outside my bedroom door right now. We don’t know what to do.”
Gregory told the dispatcher that Kush, a 4-year-old Russian Blue, began behaving badly earlier in the day so her husband James locked the cat in the bathroom for a while. Gregory said she might have accidentally stepped on the cat, sparking the aggressive behavior. When the cat was released, “she freaked out on us,” hissing, scratching and scaring them, Gregory said.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with her. I love this cat to death,” Gregory told the dispatcher.
Well, I can’t say for sure, but I can wager a guess at what might be wrong with “Kush,” who — as Jezebel pointed out — is named after a strain of strong marijuana. My cats will eat anything from plastic bags to houseplants, so if Kush just happened upon some very aromatic dried leaves then I can probably assume what happened next. It’s OK Kush, I kind of freaked out my first time too, and my hands and feet and mouth aren’t even covered in sharp things.
Or, you know, it might just be the second sign of the eventual uprising of cats. Take your pick. In either case, if only we knew when something like this would be happening ahead of time…
