Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s first televised campaign ad came out less than a week ago, but the New York real estate mogul has been bombarding social media with short attack ads for months. His latest contribution to Instagram, released on Thursday, targets Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s position as a champion of women’s rights. How? By linking her with the confirmed and alleged sexual misconduct of her husband, Bill Clinton, former U.S. Representative Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and comedian Bill Cosby.
The 20-second video combines a photo of Bill and Monica Lewinsky, as well as images of Hillary speaking with Weiner and Cosby before their respective scandals, with snippets of the Democratic presidential candidate’s various speeches about women’s rights. Following this basic lesson in making comparisons and contrasts, the ad ends with the tagline “true defender of women’s rights” being ascribed to Trump.
Not all of Hillary’s past and present affiliations are working out for her campaign. Yet who could forget the Donald’s penchant for defending American women against the tyranny of hetero-normative male dominance? Like the time he and Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly traded jabs at the first GOP debate in August. Or when he trolled her repeatedly on Twitter immediately and long after the debate.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Kelly even suggested that Trump tried to “woo” her before announcing his candidacy over the summer. These minor issues aside, however, Trump truly is the defender of American women’s rights.
